Homegrown Capitol Hill Now Open
We hit some construction delays in our efforts to bring sustainable sandwiches to Capitol Hill. For a week or two there, it seemed that the municipal government was content with the sandwich landscape already flourishing on the hillside. But something has sprouted up at Melrose Market – a small leafy glimmer of hope and exposed brick between Pike and Pine. Our doors are finally open and we couldn’t be more pleased with how the space turned out!
It’s a tiny little shoebox of a sandwich shop but it will pack a big punch, sporting our full list of sandwiches, salads, soups and sides and come late-summer, dinner service and a drunken late night menu. Fried food aside, our new 12 seat outpost will truly be the baby of the family (and therefore will get whatever it wants, a new herb garden, you name it). There will actually be more seats outside (14) than inside, ideal for soaking up the sunshine while chasing a Turkey, Bacon + Avocado on wholegrain with an ice cold Seattle brew.
But it’s our new neighbors that really make the Capitol Hill spot special. In Ferry Building of San Francisco fashion, we’ll be joining The Calf & Kid, Sonic Boom Records, Still Liquor, Velouria Boutique, Sitka & Spruce, Marigold and Mint, Bar Ferdinand and Rain Shadow Meats in a dynamic harmony of artisanal foods, gifts and goodies.
Plus, we have some free Stumptown Coffee samples in there for you on this cloudy Monday!

This month the Seattle Met listed 100 reasons to love Seattle.
Obviously, as sandwich enthusiasts, these were our favorites:

Baguette Box (baguettebox.com) The Drunken Chicken is a banh-mi on steroids.
Delicatus (delicatusseattle.com) New and brick-lined in Pioneer Square, offering a killer spicy pork with jalapeno aioli and hot pepper number called Fire of 1889.
Homegrown (eathomegrown.com) The turkey-bacon-avocado sandwich has a cult following among those who like their lunch with a side of sustainability.
Market Grill (206-682-2654) Don’t even think about anything but the blackened salmon sandwich at this Pike Place Market lunch counter.
Paseo (paseoseattle.com) Two words: Midnight Cuban.
Rizzo’s French Dip (rizzosfrenchdip.com) Big, wet French dips are all they got, and all you need.
Roy’s BBQ (royscolumbiacity.com) If there’s anything better than the pulled-pork Georgia Gold at this hole-in-the-wall, we’ve never met it.
Salumi (salumicuredmeats.com) Artisan cured meats made into marvels like the hot porchetta at Seattle’s legendary Old World salumeria.
Skillet (skilletstreetfood.com): Okay, it’s a burger…but it’s slathered with bacon jam!
Tat’s Deli (tatsdeli.com): The East Coast–style fave moved around the corner but remembered to bring its killer Tatstrami recipe. Whew!

We are at the end of the tunnel – there is a light, however faint. Thursday is not happening – Looking to open next week and bring more delicious sandwiches to Capitol Hill.

We just got our delivery van, so honk if you see us driving around town (unless it’s late at night, as that would be quite rude to your sleeping neighbors).
We’ll be using the new sandwich delivery assault vehicle to deliver goodies from our Fremont commissary kitchen to our Capitol Hill shop (which opens later this week).
The van will also double as our catering wagon, going from office building to office building with delicious Tote Lunches and sandwich platters.
