Earth Day X Sprouting Farm!

April 22, 2014

Sprouting Farm PRWe picked Earth Day to announce that we’re planting our very own certified organic farm in Woodinville, WA! Starting this summer, we’ll be growing as much of our own seasonal produce as we can at Sprouting Farm.  It’s another part of our commitment to keeping it local. Food is the closest connection people have to our planet; few things we buy and consume bring us closer to the earth than what we choose to put in our bodies. We want our staff to have the opportunity to get out of the stores and work on the farm in an effort to increase our connection to the land. And our seasonal menu items going forward will be inspired specifically by what we can grow at Sprouting Farm in Woodinville! Everyone who comes into our stores today will get post card of the farm printed on seed paper that grows into wildflowers when planted, leaving no waste behind. A little Happy Earth Day from all of us at Homegrown! Stay tuned for pics of our first harvest!

Reasons To Love: Stumptown Coffee Roasters

March 6, 2014

Here in the Pacific Northwest we have coffee culture unlike any other region in the country. Many of us have a neighborhood coffee shop that we're loyal to, but this city is full of delicious alternatives to satisfy our latte and cappuccino needs. When we opened our first shop in 2009, we decided to partner with Stumptown Coffee Roasters not simply for their amazing coffee, but also because of the way they do business around the world. dt_2 Stumptown Coffee Roasters was started in Portland in 1999 with a vision of selling coffee, "where beans were meticulously sourced, intentionally roasted and carefully brewed to bring out the life and unique flavor profile of each coffee." Through the development of their single-origin, shade-grown, direct-trade, organic coffee program, Stumptown has raised the bar for supply chain transparency in the coffee industry. Check out their Producers Page for information on individual farmers to learn where the beans are sourced, and what the process entails. wash21 By trading directly with green bean producers from around the world, Stumptown is able to provide the highest quality beans while focusing on sustainable farmland management and increasing the quality of life of the coffee farmers they work with. Coffee farmers around the world are making more money per pound on average through Stumptown's direct-trade program than the fair-trade price.
