Gluten Free / Rice Free Bread from Nuflours

January 29, 2015

Introducing our new gluten-free, rice-free, vegan and delicious sandwich roll from Seattle's very own Nuflours bakery. After popping up in Farmers Markets around Seattle, Nuflours just opened a bakery on Capitol Hill's lovely 15th Ave. Screen Shot 2015-01-24 at 5.14.25 PMWe are lucky enough to partner with them to create a unique roll that contains no eggs, dairy, wheat, rice or gluten. Made from millet, sorghum flour, potato and tapioca starch and flax seed, the bread toasts up perfectly in our toasters. 10931239_10152994664375540_4156332976265185308_n We're excited to be working with such a thoughtful and talented collection of bakers. Bouncing Back from a Cold Front

December 5, 2014

The past few weeks in Seattle have been unseasonably cold and it's taking a toll on Sprouting Farm. Our Farm Manager, Ethan Bahe, was confronted with a few issues, which lead to some innovative solutions.

"The lowest temperatures of the season have completely changed how the farm looks and how we work the land. We had to move start time back to 10:00AM because everything was frozen at the normal 6:30AM start. The water to the entire farm had to be shut down while we tended to a burst pipe. We were able to harvest everything quickly at the farm and then wash it at another location.

Unfortunately, due to the freeze, we did lose some plantings of lettuce. Our plans for next year include the installation of some greenhouses out at the farm where we will be able to grow the greens longer into the winter where the temperature and moisture can be more controlled.

This week we kicked off a Barnraiser campaign for the farm. Barnraiser is a crowd-funding website, similar to Kickstarter, but aimed at sustainable food production. It's an amazing site and we're hoping to use it to put build two large greenhouses out at the farm.

One greenhouse would give us space to house a larger and more efficient wash and pack area for produce, and the other would allow us to more effectively grow produce earlier in the spring and later into the fall and winter. Please share the campaign and help us expand our ability to deliver fresh, organic and sustainably farmed food to the Homegrown kitchens!"

Team Visit to Sprouting Farm

October 22, 2014

Last week we broke away from the mean streets of Seattle to spend the morning at Sprouting Farm. What an amazing sunny fall day working in the fields with our kitchen crew. Boxed Water Is Better

October 9, 2014

We recently began carrying a new product called Boxed Water. It's noteworthy for it's unique, contemporary design, and because it's a revolutionary way to "bottle" water. 10574250_10152598740055540_3636259626886712649_n

To put it in their own words, they're "part sustainable water company, part art project, part philanthropic project, and completely curious."

We've spotted our boxed water on blogs and all over Instagram in the hands of environmentally conscious (or, just thirsty) Seattleites. If you forgot your water bottle, this is a great choice - just see below to find out why. photo by Lacie Powell

Boxed Water is Better because of their commitment to sustainability. Here are the facts:

The Boxed Water container is far more sustainable than plastic bottled water. About 76% of the box is from a renewable  resource, trees.

The trees used to make our box come from certified, well managed forests. These forests remain healthy and stable through ongoing replanting while removing CO2 from the atmosphere.

We ship our boxes flat to our filler which is significantly more efficient compared to shipping empty plastic or glass bottles to  be filled.
