Stephen Colbert once eloquently wrote, “generally speaking, I’m against children… ‘But children are our future!’ Yes, but does that not also mean that we are their past? I don’t understand why we’re helping them. You don’t see union factory workers throwing a benefit for robots.”

Fortunately, we are a little more supportive of our future generation than Mr. Colbert. Last week, we met a 5th grade class from the Explorer Community School at the Fremont Power House (Fremont’s Art Council’s HQ) for a kiddo’s version of a Lunch-n-Learn focusing on sustainable food.

After they toured the Theo Chocolate factory, they walked up the street for some sammies, local bagels + homemade cream cheese.

Good food always paves the way for good conversation and the day’s topic was the sustainable food system, and specifically how our generation can grow, eat and shop to ensure the health of the farmland, animals, farmers and customers today and for the next generation.

All together, a really great lunch. Big thanks to the kids, teachers and parents from Explorer Community School for including Homegrown in the discussion. If you want to get in touch with us about giving a talk or providing lunch (or both!) to your school, please drop us a line at info@eathomegrown.com
